The School of Innovation (TSOI) is thrilled to announce its membership as an Associate Member of the Universities Association of Lifelong Learning (UALL), joining institutions such as the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and The Open University.

As the first challenger institution welcomed into UALL, TSOI is committed to contributing valuable insights and leveraging its unique perspective to advance the mission of lifelong learning.

The team extends their gratitude to Professor Jonathan Michie OBE, President of Kellogg College, Oxford University, who chairs the Universities Association of Lifelong Learning, for his continued support.

UALL is dedicated to promoting lifelong engagement with universities through flexible, part-time education aimed at personal, community, and vocational development. The association engages in policy advocacy, shares information on best practices and funding, and hosts various events and research publications to adapt to changes in higher education.

UALL operates as a membership organisation and registered charity, with each member institution nominating representatives to the council, the main decision-making body, while the executive committee assists with agenda prioritisation.

Key strategic focus areas include:

  • Works and Learning

  • Community and Research

  • Student Experience

  • Flexible Pedagogy and New Technologies

  • International Engagement

UALL's networks connect strategy to practice, allowing collaboration among staff across member institutions to share insights and develop policies.

The association also influences policy concerning part-time and flexible learning, public engagement, and widening participation through lobbying, workshops, and research. Current policy priorities include widening participation and access, enhancing student experience, fostering employer engagement, and embracing flexible pedagogy and new technologies.
